The Mark(ings) of Zorro
"As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron."
H.L. Mencken

Supreme Court Rules Cities May Seize Homes - EarthLink - Top News

There has always been a tension between the wealthy and powerful and the rest of us. One of the major strengths of this country has been the ability of the majority to curb the autocratic ambitions of the few. However, with this Supreme Court ruling the autocrats seem to be gaining the upper hand. It is (or should be) a well known fact that the agenda of those who support Bush is to establish a two tier system in this country. On the one hand you will have the small aristocracy who will own the vast majority of the country's resources and on the other hand, you will have the huge majority of the rest of us. The middle class will shrink to almost nothing to be replaced by a peasantry/proletariat of tennant workers.

Now, do I really believe this will happen? No...at least I don't think it will. There are, obviously, too many other variables at work here for something like this to happen...I hope. One other thing; I am not against eminent domain when we are talking about public infrastructure. When the property in question is to be held in public trust (i.e. by some level of government) for use by all citizens, then I have no problem. I wouldn't like my house to be taken to build a school or something, but I would deal with it. For my house to be taken by another citizen to build his fortune is something I cannot deal with. This ruling by the Court is just dead wrong.
