My computer died yesterday: May it R.I.P. I'm using my wife's laptop to communicate this to you, my loyal and devoted small band of readers, and I want to tell you that it is a real pain-in-the-butt. The keyboard on laptops suck...and looking at the back of this thing, I think adding a keyboard would be as bad...there is only one plug which is supposed to work for either keyboard or mouse...but I'm not convinced. Also, the speakers on this thing are small and have a tinny sound. All in all, I want my big machine back. This is going to such a major pain. This will not be a well planned and orderly transition from one machine to another. This is going to be a panic driven event which will, I know, go badly from the beginning. For starters, I have my copy of XP Pro which is registered to my currently dead computer. Getting it transferred to a new machine is not going to be easy, may the Evil Empire rot and perish. Then I can see that I'm going to have to reload just about all the software I own...and reconfigure to where I'm happy...aaaarrrrgggghhhhh!! And to top it off, I missed the one day only Dell offerring which I could have lived with--it looked to be easily a $1,000+ system for (after instant discounts and mail-in rebates) under $500. The more I think about all this, the more depressed I get. I think I'll just go slit my wrists and be done with it...OK, just kidding...but only just. I'll have to keep checking CheapStingyBastard.com to see if they get anything equivalent in... I've got to go...will update when I have some news...
