The Mark(ings) of Zorro
"As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron."
H.L. Mencken

Bits and pieces

As an aside, I have to admit that I do like this new interface for Blogger. It is clean and pretty user friendly. Being part of a big (rich) company has only been good, so far. However, I must admit that I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. Sooner or later some MBA is gonna step in to make Blogger a profit center. And when that happens, I think the quality of life will skid a little more.

Speaking of the quality of life, I have to say that, after careful study over the past couple or four decades, I have come to the conclusion that, despite fun things like big whomping PCs and the Internet (and streamed music), the over all quality of life in this country is deteriorating. It's little things. Aluminum foil, the good stuff, isn't as strong as it used to be. Cars are cooler, but you can't get anywhere as fast as you could thirty years ago. And now they are going to start fining you if you don't wear a seatbelt. Again, I use a seatbelt pretty much all the time, but I think it should be a personal decision and not one imposed upon you by the state. Now, if the state wants to recoup expenses caused by providing emergency services to people who don't wear seatbelts, fine. But the recouping should be done after the fact. This is just one more example of how the state is quietly eroding our rights and our freedoms. *sigh*

I seriously need to start rebuilding my career and (*snicker*) fortune. Working for just above minimum wage is no longer cutting it. I needed to do this for a while to rebuild my confidence after getting mauled by the stock market from 2000 to 2002. However, now I have done it and I need to move along. I wouldn't mind staying with my current employer if I could be sure that I would move up into management in the near future, but I am not all all sure that this will happen. So, I begin my journey to find something else. It is not going to be easy...I'll keep the Blog posted with this Pilgrim's progress.

And speaking a Pilgrim's Progress, I hark back to my pronouncement a month or so ago that I felt a need to change the name of this Blog. I am beginning to lean towards something like A Pilgrim's Progress...or maybe something that refers to Candide. I dunno. But I'm still thinking of changing things. I think what I really need to do is see 1) how much hassle it would be to get archives linked to a new site and to get let everybody know that the addy had changed. If I do go with another incarnation of this, it will include an RSS (or Atom...they're pretty closely related) feed. Bother! That means I have to go out and get a reader that'll accept both RSS and Atom feeds. Too effing much work, I say!

Okie dokey (god, I am watching waaaaay too much Playhouse Disney with the granddaughter! Well, that's going to stop this summer. It's outside (weather permitting) right after breakfast every day. I have so damn much yard work hanging over my head that it is not even remotely funny.), that's it for tonight. Sleep well, America!
