More ruminations, rambles, rants and raves from the downhill side of the mountain.
Just so you know exactly where I stand vis-a-vis today's polarized politics, let me recommend this organization to you.
And I also recommend my gentle employer to you as well. The Barnes & Noble Affiliate Network, which seemed to have stopped working, is back in operation, so the links and banners are working again.   Now, go buy some books. Links:

Looking back on it all, it is clear now that I've been lied to--had smoke blown up my ass and in my eyes--from the moment ole Jeff walked into the store. (Jeff is the store manager's name...) As far as I can tell, nothing that was promised to me has been delivered. I am feeling both used and abused. And I don't like it. If Jeff was going to remain as my store manager, I wouldn't hesitate to sue. I figure, if nothing else, it would be a real blot on his record. If I won, it would pretty much end his career at Barnes & Noble, and it would still be a down check in his personnel file even if I lost. The mere fact that he, and the company, was sued would not make him a popular guy with his superiors. However, the thing is that he is gone in about a month. Then we will have a new manager and there will almost certainly be another opening this summer. My problem is that I don't know if I can last until this summer. The last few days going into work have not been pleasant. I see the new DM getting her training and it gets under my skin. And sooner or later this person is going to have to begin to tell me what to do and how to do my job. That is when I will either have to swallow hard and accept or something will have to give...and I'm afraid that when the dust settles I will be no longer a Barnes & Noble bookseller. Therefore, I had best start being proactive instead of reactive. I need to reach out and see if there are any people who might help me with an alternative to Barnes & Noble before I burn my bridges at the store (and with the company.) For once in my life, I want to do the smart thing rather than the emotional thing. This coming week will, accordingly, be interesting on a couple of fronts and a couple of levels. I'll try to keep the Blog up on what is going on...
