The Mark(ings) of Zorro
"As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron."
H.L. Mencken

As the Stomach Turns, continued...

Well, it's just been a great week. I started it off hacking out my lungs to the point where my wife of almost 25 years abandoned our marital bed for the guestroom at the other end of the hall. She has informed me that she will return upon my return to health. To that end, I'm going in for a "proceedure" this coming Wednesday. My Ear, Nose and Throat guy is going to knock me out and then do what he has to do to clean all the fluid out of my inner ears. This is going to involve lancing the eardrum and possibly inserting stents to allow them to continue to drain while the swollen tissue inside recuperates. Meanwhile, I've been on an antibiotic all week in an attempt to get whatever is infecting me right now to go away for a bit. My theory is that the fluids being retain in my ears has not only impaired my hearing, but is also acting like a petri dish where all these germs are enjoying a very hospitable environment for their development. Anyhow, Wednesday is the day: we'll see if it helps my overall health.

I'm not the only one who is sick in this house, however. We are taking care of the Baby (who will no longer let herself be called that: she is a "big girl" now) for a week while her parents enjoy a cruise in the Caribbean. Needless to say, my little sweetheart immediately caught whatever it is that I have, and, today, was not a happy camper. Today she needed to be a limpet on Granddad, so, on my day off, I got precious little done other than comfort a pretty sick little girl. I should note that comforting a small person like this is not a burdensome task. While I did get twinges of feeling the need to get "stuff" done, for the most part sitting on the couch with her stuck to me made us both feel a little better. She is already in bed and her Grammy and I hope that she will sleep some of this off tonight. Her parents get home tomorrow, and it won't do to have their precious looking as forlorn and pathetic as she did this afternoon.
