The Mark(ings) of Zorro
"As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron."

My choice

I like Wesley Clark. I think his ideology and general philosophy of government fit my quasi-liberal parameters. I like the fact that he can go toe to toe with Bush over his ability to lead. After all, the man was CIC of NATO, and even the fact that he was fired from that job is to his credit. He was doing the right thing there, but it was not politically palatable to folks back in Washington, so he was out. No, I think that Clark actually has the best chance of beating Bush in a contest of personalities and character. Unfortunately, I don't think he has the political organization to derail Kerry. (Dean's losses in virtually every caucus/primary so far pretty much derails his candidacy.) It truly looks like Kerry is now the man to beat, and, the way he is moving through the early tests makes beating him really difficult.

I worry that Kerry is too closely tied to the stigma of (and I'm sorry about this) liberal Massachusetts and Teddy Kennedy. Make no mistake, if Kerry is, in fact, the Democrat candidate, I will enthusiastically support him. I will also enthusiastically support any Democrat initiative to win back control of the House and Senate. In fact, while it would be nice to have the White House occupied by a true patriot and democrat(as opposed to the oligarch we have in there now), I think it is even more important to regain control of the legislative branch. Let's let the right wing sit on the sidelines for awhile. They have had their chance to make this a better place to live, and, for my money, they have blown that chance badly. Let's give the liberals another go at it....
