If you brought a peasant forward from....ooohhh...the 15th Century, and you showed him modern medicine, he would shrug and say something on the order of, "Of course, Magic." We take all these pills for our various ills, yet not one in 10,000 has any kind of clear idea about what is going on. We take them on faith, and we assume that they will work. In another era, that would be called Magic. In fact, how do we know that deep in the bowels of Merck there aren't witches and warlocks casting spells on various powders. Pharmacists hide behind those high barriers: how do I know those aren't cloven hoves down there and that the scripts I hand him aren't binding spells from my local warlock. After all, I sure as hell can't read the damn things... As Anorexic Annie (that's another story) says, "Think about it." (Two points for anyone who has any idea who I'm quoting here...)
