The Mark(ings) of Zorro
"As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron."
H.L. Mencken

A short Vacation

As of tomorrow...errr...this morning, I'm off to the Adirondaks with my daughter and her significant other. [I keep hoping that they'll tie the knot one of these days, but she is an artiste.] My wife is staying at home because she feels she needs to spend some time in her gardens. I'm not real thrilled that we are taking separate vacations this summer (she went to Maine with her sister a couple weeks ago and left me home with the granddaughter), but that is the way things are going. I love this woman with all my heart and soul, yet sometimes I think that we will not see our 25th anniversary next year. The stresses the last two years have taken a toll on our relationship, and I am beginning to fear that some of the stress fractures cannot be repaired. Even if we do stay together, the relationship may have irrevocably changed. On the other hand, maybe this summer is what we need to get our respective heads together again, and we will emerge with even stronger bonds. Right now, I don't know...all I do know is that I am heading north tomorrow for 3-4 days of living the simple life. I get back in time to go to work Wednesday afternoon, so I'll try to post something about the trip early Thursday morning. Assuming, of course, that I do come back...
