The saga of the squirrel invasion continues apace. Last weekend we had the entry points used by the nasty little beasts repaired. The gentleman who did the work did a lovely job and we were thrilled with the results. Until Tuesday. Tuesday we heard what sounded like gnawing coming from the wall in my office. Wednesday I put out peanuts in the basement. Thursday they were gone. We have tenant(s). So, that afternoon I put out the borrowed Hav-a-Hart trap, and I baited it with peanuts. Damn squirrel(s) ate the peanuts without triggering the trap. I oiled all the working parts (to make sure that they were now on a hair trigger!) and rebaited the trap with an apple coated with peanut butter and with peanuts stuck in to add to the desireability of the treat. I also left a peanut or two lying near the trap to get the freeloader(s) in close...didn't work. They took the peanuts and didn't get near the apple bait. The war continues!
