And so it goes...Last Saturday I had my initial interview for the vacant Department Manager slot at the store with our store manager. Yesterday I arrived at work to learn that our store manager had just been fired by our Regional Director. I further learned that, until we get a new, permanent store manager, there would be no further action taken vis-a-vis filling the vacant position I'm applying for. Now, I'm...aaahhh...distressed on two levels. First, this means that it will be at least September before I have any chance at a promotion. And even then, it is not a sure thing as there are at least 3 others from our store who have applied; there is one of them who is (in my humble opinion) at least as strong a candidate as I am. Oh well, I have to let it go...what will be will be. The second thing I'm distressed about is the totally unprofessional way this firing was done. It was well known that our Regional Director (RD) has been gunning for our Store Manager since the store opened. It seems that he was not her choice to get this store, so she has been working to make him go away. Yesterday, her plans reached fulfillment. Now, to tell the truth, there were some things that our store management has been lax or remiss on. All that was needed, though, was a little remediation by either our District Manager or our RD, and things would have been fine. (When I say "little remediation", I do mean a very small investment of their time.) Recently our RD has distinguished herself by have 4 of her District Managers quit in the last six months. If I were in corporate management, this would have red flags flying all over the place for me, and she would be the one looking over her shoulder for the corporate "headsman". I'll learn more about what is actually going on tomorrow. I'll keep the world posted...*grin*
