OK, it's official: Mother Nature does not want me to live here. My house is under attack by the minions of Mom Nature. Last year, I discovered termites in the wood mulch outside, and traces of previous visits to the house (although I didn't find any evidence of current, active infestation of the house--all damage was old). Then, over the winter the skylights in the master bathroom started leaking again. However, with the weather the way it was, I couldn't get up there to work on it until about two weeks ago. Then there is the mold starting to grow in one dampish corner of the basement. It's not like I have standing water down there; one corner has cinder block which "sweats" when the ground is wet. The problem has been that, this year, the ground has been pretty much permanently wet. Two of my cedar trees which form a screen for the pool pump succumbed to the drought last year. Now I'm worried that the rest of 'em are going to drown. And, speaking of the pool, the liner has to be replaced before we can open it for use this year--seems that the sun's radiation, over time, decays the vinyl used in pool liners. Mother Nature strikes again! And the final blow (or at least the most recent attack upon my domicile) is that the squirrels have gnawed their way through the soffit by the chimney and have taken up residence in the house. They scamper up and down the walls and are tearing out our insulation while (I'm sure) giggling madly; I've seen that commericial with the squirrels. If it weren't for the fact that my wife loves this place (and that I couldn't replace it with something comparable at this point in my life), I'd put it on the market tomorrow. As it is, I will have to continue my joust with Ma Nature.
