I am going through one of my periodic crises of faith. I believe in God...sorta. I profess to be a Christian, yet I have severe and deep doubts about the story of the ressurection. The whole thing (God, Christ and religion in general) seems to be on a par with Tarot card readers and astrology. [I know that God is gonna get me for that one.] This is not coming out like I wanted. What I'm trying to say is that while I believe the the Universe was created and did not just happen into existence by chance. That inexorably leads me to the next step that if it was created by something that has intelligence, as far as we're concerned we might as well call that being God because <God> has all the attributes we humans have been assigning to dieties since the dawn of human history. My problem is with the Bible as being the infallible and absolute Word of God. The bible is so full of contradictions and vagueness that, rather than strengthen my faith, it weakens it. For an example, since this is the Easter Season, let's talk about the Ressurection. First of all, there were no eyewitnesses. All we have is the word of two semi-hysterical women about what happened at the tomb. Then, between the Ressurection and the Ascension, Christ seems to behave more like a ghost than a risen flesh and blood person. Well, if he is a ghost, then he didn't actually rise, did he. Christ walks with the men who had known him intimately for years, yet they don't recognize him. And it goes on and on. This is my cross. I have to be able to get past the inconsistencies of the Bible. Sometimes I am not sure that I can do it. Sometimes, I'm not sure that I should do it. *sigh*
