Anyhow, my condition, thanks to modern medicine, is slowly improving: I can sit upright for more than a few minutes at a time and my head doesn't feel like a bowling ball. Hopefully, I'll actually be healthy enough to go to work tomorrow as scheduled. I seem to have spent my last three "weekends" (I get Thursday/Friday off) flat on my back and seriously considering death as a realistic alternative. It has been somewhat of a drag. I have also yet to "play" in the snow this year. The two snowfalls of any major consequence this month have occurred while I was pretty much...sick. However, as I watched my wife shovel the front walk and pay to have the driveway done, I contemplated certain existential verities of life. Verity number one is that age and the decrepitudes it brings are inevitable. Therefore, even though our driveway is about 3 cars long by 2 1/2 cars wide, I am no longer a young man capable of shovelling it in less than twenty minutes. It is time to buy that snowblower and make another concession to age. My plan is to wait until April (or maybe the end of March) to get one that is marked down since nobody wants to hold a snowblower in inventory over the summer. My hope is that the mark down will be substantial. Nope, my wife looks at me and makes pointed comments about "middle-aged men who die shovelling snow". But wait...speaking of heart attacks, one of the benefits of being sick as a dog for two weeks is that I've lost about 10 pounds in that time. My plan is to keep that weight off for the next month and then to seriously work on losing another 10 pounds by Memorial Day. That would put me under 200 for the first time in...oohhh...about 15 years or so. Of course, my ultimate goal is to get back to about 170-180 which would put only a couple pounds overweight. This quick loss jump start of 10 pounds gives me hope that my goals will be attained this time. I figure that each 10 pounds I shed adds a couple years to my life expectancy, and, since I am still somewhat fond of this plane of existence, adding years is still considered a good thing...
