Sometimes, no..., make that most of the time, commercial entities make dumb choices. Earthlink, for instance, has a perfectly good site tracker, but...But it has only minimal functionality when one is using one's free webspace. Now, I have no plans to spend $20/month to host my blog. I don't think my ramblings are worth quite that much to the world. Yet, I do want to see if anybody other than me is coming here. So, I've added the Sitemeter to my site. It has taken me 10-15 minutes to accomplish this little task. Now, the Sitemeter free version only has two or three functions that Earthlink's Urchin doesn't provide for the same price, but those functions are precisely what I wanted. If I were using Earthlink for a commercial site, I would pay the $20/month and use their fully functional Urchin for my site reporting, I think. Anyhow, I wish that Earthlink had made this a little easier. Now let's see how the Sitemeter button looks...
