It was 41 degrees out, and She had me doing these damn marinated pork roasts on the grill. This is not a gas grill, so, unless you maintain a certain critical temperature, the damn coals go out. Especially if you are trying to grill using the indirect heat method. The roasts had been cooking for over an hour, and they were no where near done. I hate it when She talks me into doing things that I should know better than to do. I finally gave in and mounded the coals in the middle of the grill and went to direct heat. Another 1/2 hour and they were done. To back track a bit, Halloween was a slight let down around here. Last year we had over 125 little extortionists ring our door bell. This year only 79 of 'em braved the cold and dark. I also noticed that more of the kids had parents chaperoning them. It seemed that there were a lot of kids in the 8-10 year-old range who had parents in the background. Times change, and not always for the better. (When I was a kid, by the time we hit 4th grade, we would have died to have a parent anywhere within shouting distance...) Yesterday was All Saint's Day for us Episcopalians. The Gospel today was the Beatitudes from the Sermon on the Mount. I do believe that our President should pay special attention to the one about Peacekeepers. Again, I am struck by the disconnect between our nominally Christian culture and the actual Gospel as recorded by our Bible. I also note that nowhere in the Christian portion of the Bible is violence in any form sanctioned.
