I am absolutely disgusted. With politics. More specifically, with the Democrat Party. This election should have been a slam-dunk for the Dems. They should have hammered the Republicans on the economy, the environment, foreign policy and the polarization of the country caused by the extreme right of the Republican Party. Instead, they seem to have totally blown any chance of taking back the House and their paper thin control of the Senate is in severe jeopardy. The problem, of course, is that politics are not drawing high caliber candidates from either side of the political spectrum. Our current President is certainly not the brightest bulb in the package, and our last President, while reasonably intelligent and even charismatic, had(has) the sexual morals of a mink. Most of us think about the high probability of both the political opposition and the press digging for any dirt, no matter how far back, in one's personal life, and decide (rightly, in my view) to take a pass on politics--at least as a candidate. And that means that we get, for the most part, less that the cream running for political office. And this is truly beginning to hurt this country. I will not be hanging on every election return tonight. I will glance, occasionally, at the election coverage, but I will spend most of my time working on the sideboard. That seems to be a more productive use of my time today.
